History

Founded in 1978

Hope Lutheran Church began its mission in Manassas, Virginia in 1978 with the vision of five families that gathered together to establish a Missouri Synod Lutheran Church in their community. For the first five years, services were held in a gymnasium provided by a local church. In 1985, we dedicated our present home on a tract of land at the corner of Sudley Manor and Garner Drive.

In 2024, we celebrated our 45th anniversary at a gala featuring speakers from the Synod and a fundraiser. We hope that you find Hope Lutheran an ideal sanctuary to restore your spirit and sustain your life in Christ.

Our Place in the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod

Hope Lutheran Church was founded as a mission congregation of the Southeastern District of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod (LCMS). The LCMS consists of 35 districts with more than 6,000 congregations and 2 million members. There are 33 geographical districts representing all 50 United States. The remaining two districts — English District and SELC District — are non-geographical, and they consist of member congregations in the U.S. plus the Canadian provinces of Ontario and Quebec.

The LCMS has National and District conventions every three years, and the schedule includes time for conducting business, electing officers and sharing information. The conventions also offer opportunities for worship, nurture, inspiration and fellowship. Our active participation in the LCMS empowers us to serve others better through national and world missions, relief efforts, and evangelism.
